The Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) is an open protocol co-authored by Stripe and Tempo that lets agents pay for APIs and services programmatically. Use Link to approve a payment for a Browserbase session. Link CLI pays with a Stripe Shared Payment Token (SPT), and you connect to the browser with Stagehand, Playwright, or Puppeteer. You don’t need a Browserbase account or API key. Endpoint: https://mpp.browserbase.com

How it works

The link-cli mpp pay command handles the payment challenge, approval, and paid request.
1

Request a session

Link CLI sends a request with the number of minutes you need. Browserbase returns 402 Payment Required with a payment challenge in the WWW-Authenticate header.
2

Approve in Link

Open the approval URL returned by Link CLI and review the amount. After you approve, the CLI retrieves a Shared Payment Token and retries the request with an Authorization: Payment credential.
3

Connect to the session

After verifying payment, Browserbase creates the session and returns its connectUrl and expiration time. Connect over CDP to start browsing.

Pricing

Pay 0.50 USD for 250 minutes of browser access. Check the 402 challenge for the current amount before paying. The response’s expiresAt value tells you when the session expires.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:
  • Link CLI, which provides the link-cli mpp pay command.
  • A Link account with an eligible saved payment method.
  • Stagehand, Playwright, or Puppeteer to control the browser.
For USDC payments through x402, see the x402 integration. To use Link to pay merchants while browsing, see the Stripe integration.

MPP quickstart
